Nebraska Governor Signs Access MFTs Bill into Law

Victory for Licensure Portability!

On May 20, Nebraska took a significant step toward expanding access to mental health care and supporting Marriage and Family Therapists (MFTs) nationwide. Governor Jim Pillen signed LB 257 into law, making Nebraska the latest state to adopt AAMFT’s Access MFTs licensure portability legislation.

When the law takes effect this fall, LMFTs from other states will be able to apply for a Nebraska license by simply verifying their current license in good standing, eliminating unnecessary barriers to practice.

This achievement was made possible through the leadership of the Nebraska Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, with key support from AAMFT Clinical Fellow and NAMFT Legislative Chair Anne Buettner.

This is a major win for both the profession and the clients we serve. For more information on the Access MFTs initiative, visit accessmfts.org.
