Medicare Provider Enrollment Doesn’t Mean Obligation

By MFT Advocacy

One of the most persistent misconceptions about Medicare is that enrolling as a provider means you are required to accept Medicare clients.

That’s not the case.

Enrollment simply gives you the option to work with Medicare beneficiaries—it does not obligate you to do so. You retain control over your caseload, your specialties, and your practice policies. From a business perspective, enrollment is about flexibility. It allows you to adapt as your client base evolves, rather than being forced into reactive decisions later.

For LMFTs, this flexibility can be especially valuable as the demand for services among older adults continues to grow. Find out more at aamft.org/Medicare.
