New AAMFT Resource Page: Supporting Jewish Clients and Therapists

At AAMFT, we believe that effective therapy begins with understanding. Marriage and family therapists serve individuals, couples, and families from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and identities. Providing culturally responsive care requires an ongoing commitment to learning about the communities we serve and the unique experiences that shape their lives. 

To support that commitment, AAMFT has launched a new resource page: Supporting Jewish Clients and Therapists. The page brings together educational materials, organizations, and clinical resources designed to help therapists deepen their understanding of Jewish history, culture, traditions, identity, and lived experiences while strengthening culturally responsive clinical practice. 

Jewish identity is multifaceted, encompassing religion, culture, ethnicity, heritage, and community. Like all clients, Jewish individuals and families bring diverse perspectives and experiences into the therapy room. Developing greater awareness of those experiences helps therapists build stronger therapeutic relationships and provide care that is respectful, informed, and responsive. 

As Chris Michaels, Chief Executive Officer of AAMFT, shared, “Relationships flourish when people feel understood, respected, and safe. As marriage and family therapists, we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to continue learning about the communities we serve. These resources reflect AAMFT’s commitment to supporting therapists as they deepen their cultural understanding and provide care that honors the dignity and lived experiences of every individual and family.” 

The resource page also includes information on the impact of antisemitism on individuals, families, and communities, recognizing that continued education is an important component of culturally competent practice.
