AAMFT Recognized with Trio of 2025 ASAE National Awards for Mental Health Leadership

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) has been recognized with a Power of Associations Summit Award, Gold Award, and Silver Award by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for three groundbreaking initiatives to expand access to mental health care and support the future of the behavioral health workforce.

  • Summit Award: AAMFT received ASAE’s highest honor — the Summit Award — for its Jobs of Tomorrow: Marriage and Family Therapy. This project highlighted the MFT profession and inspired interest in this meaningful, people-centered career path. [Watch here.]
  • Gold Award: AAMFT earned a Gold Award for its Access MFTs licensure portability initiative, which has reduced unnecessary barriers to practice and expanded access to essential mental health care.
  • Silver Award: A Silver Award recognized AAMFT’s 2022 Workforce Study, which examined key trends and challenges in the MFT workforce to guide strategies for strengthening the profession and improving care access. The study was repeated in April 2025 to track progress; updated results will be released next month.

“These three initiatives represent the heart of AAMFT’s mission — to advocate for systemic mental health solutions that improve lives and offer vital support,” said AAMFT CEO Chris Michaels. “These awards reflect the tireless work of our members, staff, and partners who are working every day to meet the growing demand for mental health care.”

“Congratulations to AAMFT for exemplifying the impact associations have on the industries and professions they represent, and on society at large,” said ASAE President and CEO Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE. “It’s always so incredibly satisfying to see associations going above and beyond their everyday mission to change the world. We’re very proud to spotlight these award-winning initiatives.”
