“Last week, a therapist named Tracey Laszloffy spoke with a client dealing with a very specific intrusive thought: Could the presence of a single yard sign in a quiet North Carolina neighborhood determine the result of the 2024 presidential election? The client’s neighbor had put up a sign claiming that a vote for Donald Trump would be a vote to close the border. “Other people will see this,” Laszloffy recalled her nervous client saying. “What if it comes down to just a few votes? And it’s influencing people? And what if those few votes could make the difference?”
